PONPONPON ー きゃりーぱみゅぱみゅ

BIG UPDATE 8/6/2011!!! I just sang this in karaoke, so I saw a bunch of places where the lyrics were off. Still not perfect, but more accurate than it was :)

The disclaimer on this song is that it came out like...yesterday? So I don't have a reliable raw Japanese lyrics. Someone did a tranliterscription, but I made a couple changes because I think they potentially mistransliterscribed some parts and I finally came up with what it MIGHT be. But...I could be wrong. So this post will be considered a work in progress. Can't wait for the mini-album August 17!

Clap clap clap - Kyaryapamyupamyu [1]

What if everyone skipped

through that intersection

What if in the middle of the city

we held hands and looked up at the sky

What if we wanted to seize a chance

somewhere in that city

It's too early to cry more [2]

All I can do is just keep going forward—I hate it I hate it [3] UPDATE!!

Clap clap it'd be great if you put it all out there [4]

Not doing it is lame, right?

Put on your headphones! [5] UPDATE!

On the beat [6] UPDATE!

Way way! Open it, my path

Clap clap make progress with various things

Here they come, your feelings

Toss one out, who's the bad one? UPDATE! [6.5]

Yeah yeah, good boy, ahh you make me happy [7]

Every day clap every time is clap

I want to ride a merry-go-round UPDATE! [7.5]

every day clap every time is clap

but maybe it's pointless... [8]

Clap clap it'd be great if you put it all out there

Not doing it is lame, right?

Put on your headphones!

On the beat!

Way way! Open it, my path

Clap clap way way way

clap clap way clap way clap clap

way way clap clap clap

way way clap way clap way way x2

What if everyone skipped

through that intersection

but maybe it's pointless...

Clap clap way way way

clap clap way clap way clap clap

way way clap clap clap

way way clap way clap way way x4

Notes:

[1] Yeah, I translated "pon." You'll just have to deal with it, I think.
[2] I admit to being a little thrown by "no ni" and "nara" in this instance. This line is largely the result of machine translation :X even though "naku" and "hayai" make perfect sense. Computer came up with "It is early to still cry," and yeah, when you read it in Japanese you can't quite make it say "It's still too early to cry" which is what I really want it to say. I looked up まだ just to see what other options were available, so I ended up going with "more" instead of "still." Finally, nobody in English says, "It's early to [do something." The phrase is always "too early," right? Or "kind of early?" I don't think I've ever heard anyone not qualify "early to [do something]" so I want with "too" even though there was no "sugiru" or anything. Yeah, this line was kind of hard :(
[3] ANOTHER UPDATE: It's 「ただ前に進むしかないわいやいや」。UPDATE: This line has been updated per the original tranliterscriber's comment below! (Previous [3] note: This is one of the lines where the lyrics posted on that website didn't make sense to me. Given the the "susumu" line further down I figured "kuru mae ni susumu shika nai wa iya iya" IT COULD BE WRONG.)
[4] You could also probably translate this using "pon pon" as the verb "clap" instead of as a sound effect, but I like it this way better :P The song is not really about clapping after all.
[5] UPDATE: It's 「ヘッドフォンかけて」. This is the other line in the transliterscription that bugged me. "epon agete" doesn't make any sense to me. I swear I hear "kakete" so I feel like it's just an further encouragement to pon. If you think it's weird that I didn't translate with pon as the verb in the first line and do now, well, that is tough, I think :) Anyhow, my updated version is "ee pon kakete" AND IT COULD BE WRONG.
[6] Literally "put it on the rhythm."
[6.5] UPDATE: It's not BOY BOY but 「ポイポイ捨てる」, which means to toss or chuck out. Still not sure if this line is correct, but it's closer, like I mentioned in the beginning :D
[7] Literally "good child." The lyrics I went from seemed to want to translate it as "yeah yeah let's go" but in that case she would not have sung i-i ko but iko-o. Subtle difference but I am really confident in this case that I'm right. Especially given the juxtaposition with "bad child." Man I'm tempted to go with "naughty" for bad, but I really just hate that word. Can I be selfish and just use bad? :D #libertiestaken
[7.5] It's 「merry-go-round乗りたいの」
[8] I originally put "but maybe not? Ah, it's no good..." but somehow felt that wasn't quite right because I couldn't remember what the implications of "ja" were. The nifty.com translator came up with "It might be useless in so," for that line, so I just edited it.

  1. The transliteration is mine (originally posted to Perfume City BBS), but edited by someone at JpopAsia who clearly doesn't understand the language, so I apologize for nonsense like "epon agete" and such. My version originally went "me no mae ni susumu shika nai wa," but I was conflicted between that and "demo mae ni..."

As for the rest, I wrote "ikou" thinking that in Kyary's version, it was probably written something like "ikkou" to match her quirky style of speaking.

I have some issues with this translation personally, but mostly I wanted to clear up some of what you were wondering!

  2. Ah ha, interesting! Thanks a lot for the comment AND for the romaji :) It helped a lot.

I watched and listed to that split second of the video/track and hear 'demo' more than 'me no' so I will update accordingly! I hope the mini-album comes with liner notes (although it would be nice if we did ok and there are no surprises).

  6. Thank, Tim! I managed to pick up a copy of the CD, the other day, so I'm planning on doing a final pass on these lyrics and doing at least one other song for now :D
