おやすみ ー きゃりーぱみゅぱみゅ

Moving backwards through the album...

Good Night - Kyary Pamyu Pamyu

The good times, right, they go by so fast, but
Let's get together again soon, everyone—for sure!
Thanks With a heart full of memories [1]
I'll say good night for today

This story has come to an end Close the book
Close your eyes and let's float in the night sky
If you wake up with the sun
Remember what happened today C'mon, smile!

A pretty box When you open a present
If the wrapping sparkles, you'll sleep soundly

Ding dong the park's closing chime rings out. I'm sad but
I'm sure we'll meet again in our dreams
Thanks With a heart full of memories
I'll say good night for today

A pretty box When you open a present
If the wrapping sparkles, you'll sleep soundly

We'll sleep soundly
We'll sleep soundly

Notes:

[1] "heart full of memories" is kind of tidy compared to たくさん思い出胸にかかえたまま but I think it does it decent justice.

ちゃんちゃんちゃんちゃん ー きゃりーぱみゅぱみゅ

I skipped ahead in the KPP album because I need to get some advice :P Here is the last song off Pamyu Pamyu Revolution...

Chan Chaka Chan Chan - Kyary Pamyu Pamyu [1]

Chan chaka chan chan
We'll be able to meet again. It's not "good-bye" but "see you next time."
I DON'T WANNA GO HOME I just wanna argue for argument's sake
Do re mi fa so la ti so SEE YOU NEXT TIME

SEE YOU SEE YOU SEE YOU AGAIN
SEE YOU SEE YOU SEE YOU NEXT TIME
SEE YOU SEE YOU SEE YOU AGAIN
SEE YOU SEE YOU SEE YOU NEXT TIME

Should we head home? Should we head home? Should we hurry home?
Dad's pooped out and sleeping on the bench [2]
Let's get in the car and go home
I'll sleep peacefully in the backseat
Mumble mumble mumble mumble
Mumble mumble mumble mumble
'n I have school tomorrow
so I'll set the alarm for 7 AM

1 2 1 2 1 2 1 2
1 2 1 2 1 2 1 2

One twooo one twooo one twooo one twooo
One twooo one twooo one twooo one twooo

Notes:

[1] As far as I know this is just cute nonsense, so I left it.
[2] I used "pooped out" not because the verb was different than the normal "tired" but because she said おとうちゃん. I dunno if that is a legitimate strategy or not, but it came immediately to mind. Kind of interesting.

I like how this song quotes other songs on the album. It's really like the closing credits :)

Kyary Kyary Pamyu Conspiracy Manga Translation

For those of you in range of Crunchyroll News, I have not been writing much lately, but I did translate this kooky comic that suggests Kyary Pamyu Pamyu is part of an Illuminati attempt at world domination through brainwashing. READ IT!

Candy Candy - きゃりーぱみゅぱみゅ

Sorry I'm being pokey. Final exams and what not. Actually I'm supposed to be writing a paper right now.

Here's my translation of "Candy Candy." It's fairly liberal for me. I'm working on improving the feel of my English because really there should be no difference between English that is written as a translation and English that is just...written.

Candy Candy - Kyary Pamyu Pamyu

In my desk, in my pocket, and in my bag, too
I always have it, I never forget Should we pick something out?
A little tiny smidge of happiness is born
Floof, a sweetened atmosphere I bet we can make it through this without getting all worked up

CANDY CANDY CANDY CANDY CANDY
SWEETIE SWEETIE GIRLS LOVE
CHEWING CHEWING
CHEWING CHEWING
CHEWING CHEWING CHEWING
CUTIE CUTIE XXX CHEWING LOVE
CANDY CANDY CANDY CANDY CANDY
SWEETIE SWEETIE GIRLS LOVE
CHEWING CHEWING
CHEWING CHEWING
CHEWING CHEWING CHEWING
CUTIE CUTIE SO CANDY LOVE

This and that and that over there, everybody's so wonderful, I want to fall under your spell
I don't have any time to be listening to your requests!
Cuz no, I'm a girl and right now is an important time
Floof, a sweetened atmosphere I bet we can make it through this without getting all worked up

The only note I really feel like leaving here is that before paying attention to the video/reading the lyrics I thought "Girls Love" sounded a lot like "Gum Drop." I guess in Japanese the difference between ラブ and ドロップ is a significant amount of syllables, but I thought she was just using natural English pronunciation. The words certainly would have fit the song...

If somebody has any questions or criticism, the comment section is open :P

きゃりーANAN ー きゃりーぱみゅぱみゅ

Ya, I kinda like this song. And no, I don't think it has anything to do with bean paste (餡).

Kyary ANAN - Kyary Pamyu Pamyu

An an a-an an
Pamyu pamyu
An an a-an an
Kyary Pamyu Pamyu

We work! Dreaming
Today and tomorrow we got our part-time jobs Let's do our best, ok? [1]
I want this and that Let's get to work [2]
This week and next week Let's do our best, ok?

 Notes:

[1] "We got our part-time jobs" is kinda of clunky, but the feel of バイト vs regular 仕事 or whatever is really different and seems important to the spirit of the song. You can imagine her/them working at a fast food joint or a record shop or a bar maybe, but not like...an office?

[2] 働こ is a shortened form of 働こう which just means, "Let's work" but that is clunky in a whole different way, so I embellished.

みんなのうた ー きゃりーぱみゅぱみゅ

I'm worried this translation is a little stiff, especially in the last verse. I'd like to think the reason is that I prioritized parallel structure, but you can feel free to disagree.

Everyone's Song - Kyary Pamyu Pamyu [1]

Put your hands up, put your hands up, open your hands, open your hands
Clap clap…

Just by clapping your hands, your mood will brighten
Let's match the rhythm Everyone let's make a circle and clap

Look, it's simple. You don't have to think about anything.
It would be great if we all started smiling via the power of music
Just by clapping your hands, your mood will brighten
Let's match the rhythm Everyone let's make a circle and clap

Finally, finally, I get it!
I want to forget all the things I hate
Surely, surely, I'll start smiling [2]
Always, Always, I want to do as I please [3]

Notes:

[1] You could also opt to not translate this and just say Minna no Uta.
[2] If I wanted to break the structure: "I know I'll start smiling"
[3] Was tempted to go with "I just wanna do my thing forever" but I'm not sure if わがままcan extend to cover that somewhat positive meaning, haha.

CORRECTED: つけまつける - きゃりーぱみゅぱみゅ

This is a (keyword "a") corrected translation of "Tsukematsukeru" using the lyrics from the liner notes in Pamyu Pamyu Revolution. You can see all the ways I messed up by opening this in another browser and comparing. Not that I'm claiming it's perfect now...just more, uh, perfectly wonky.

Notes:

[1a] What...the...hell is this supposed to mean?

[1b] Artistic liberties taken.

[2] Changed this slightly from old version even though my listening comprehension was not off.

[3] I misheard this line when I originally translated this song. "angle of your heart" is not English, but I kind of like the way it sounds in a creative sense... Said "same old" because "same" alone did not seem to carry the correct connotation...

[4] Also edited this line slightly just to make it sound more natural.

[5] This was that word I could not figure out. おめめ is baby talk for 目. As far as I know, there is no baby talk for "eyes" in English...

If you haven't yet, I recommend checking out the original notes. I'm gonna try to work through the rest of the album consistently this week.

Work in Progress: つけまつける - きゃりーぱみゅぱみゅ

If you were not directed here from the corrected version of this translation, please check it out here! :)

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu's new single is not out yet, but was played somewhere during a livestream and YouTubed. Took down the lyrics to the best of my ability, but if you heard something different let me know. Sorry to bring the romaji infliction :P Will clean up this post as things become clearer ;D

A couple notes up front:

1. The chorus is kind of a play on the words つける (to put on an accessory) and まつげ (which means "eyelashes"). That's for good reason since the word for "fake eyelashes" is a combination of those two, つけまつげ. I just translated it pretty straight to keep things simple.

1.5 You can argue with me about "fake" vs. "false," and I'll listen, but personally I don't say "false eyelashes." Sounds...outdated?

2. The bridge (the line about the "same sky") is one part I am not quite sure if I heard accurately, and if I did hear it accurately, I'm not sure I captured the meaning quite perfectly.

3. Finally, there is one word that I really can't hear well enough to say even for WIP purposes, shown as [?]. It sounds like まんめ まうんめ or mayyyyyybe なんめ, but I don't think any of those are right. If anyone has ideas or info, let me know :)

Moshi Moshi Harajuku English Lyrics COMPLETE

So it's the first time I've actually rounded out an entire album, mini though it may be.

Track 1 is just spelling her name, mostly, so I'll just stick it here for reference...

1. きゃりーのマーチ

Kyary's March

K-Y-A-R-Y, P-A-M-Y-U
K-Y-A-R-Y, P-A-M-Y-U

K-Y-A-R-Y, P-A-M-Y-U, P-A-M-Y-U

K-Y-A-R-Y (Kyary, Kyary)
P-A-M-Y-U (way way way)
K-Y-A-R-Y (Kyary, Kyary)
P-A-M-Y-U (way way way)

Kyaryyyyyyyyy (Pamyu Pamyu)

And there you have it. Please leave feedback regarding individual translation issues on the respective song pages, if you have any, that is.

Thanks!

jelly - きゃりーぱみゅぱみゅ

This is the last track on the mini-album. It's a Capsule cover, which I didn't find out until today. I knew one of the tracks was a cover of someone, but not which one. When I first heard this song I thought it sounded an awful lot like Baby Cruising Love (by Perfume), but it turns out it's the other way around ;D

Japanese lyrics here.

This was the hardest song on the album to translate.

jelly - Kyary Pamyu Pamyu

I was convinced.

Not dreaming seems better.

It's trembling, the jiggly, bright red jelly.

I lost my way in this place.

I found what I was looking for, but no matter

how much I ask for it, I can't have it

I'm convinced.

It's a coincidence,

but surely we're made for each other, is what I'd say [1]

I just don't have the confidence.

I was convinced it would go bad right away.

It's always like that, but that's how it is.

I'm convinced it's a matter of course. [2]

Not dreaming seems better.

It's trembling, the jiggly, bright red jelly.

If you untie the ribbon on that little bottle

and take off the silver lid...

Notes:

[1] Since she says "そんな僕は" in the next line, it must be her saying this sentence. I originally had this translated as someone else saying it, sort of like, "It's a coincidence, but you'd say it's natural." That doesn't work, though, so I think....maybe....this way makes it clearer. I could be wrong.

[2] This too was sort of tricky. 当然 in general, in this song, kind of tricky. And 思い込む. It seems like each one has a few nuances that kind of change the meaning in important ways depending on what you go with.

ピンポンがなんない - きゃりーぱみゅぱみゅ

Do you detect a theme? It's the fifth track on Moshi Moshi Harajuku.

Realized it the other night at the airport that I could understand way more of this song than I assumed I could. Just goes to show what you can accomplish if you try. Anyways, once I listened to the words, yeah...I really fell in love with this song, especially the chorus. I think lots of people can relate, guys and girls alike. Even though (in some cases), you know it's just you being emo, you still get that feeling? This song really nails it. And I love the metaphor of the bubbling stew... I think Japanese stews do the best job of making "chunky" veggies etc, so it's really picturesque in a way. I dunno, yeah. ちょっと感動しちゃった。lol Anyways, enjoy :P

Japanese lyrics here.

The Chime Won't Ring [1]

It's not always like this

but now and then I get this feeling

Heavy bag slung over my shoulder [2]

I pedal my bike up the hill

Get out the big ladel

and continue with various prepwork

I'm waiting for you to get back,

but the chime just doesn't go off

The bubbling stew is cooking

with lots of chunky ingredients

You can't tell at a glance

I put a lot of heart into this so it'll be good

Beep boop I send you mail

but there's no reply at all

I'm fickle, so please, before my feelings for you eventually cool off

come home (the chime won't ring)

come home (the chime won't ring)

Cabbage carrots flour

potatoes onions parsley

butter milk mushrooms

What else should I put in?

Soup, wine, salt 'n pepper

Don't forget the bacon!

I'm waiting for you to get back,

but the chime just doesn't go off

The bubbling stew is cooking

with lots of chunky ingredients

You can't tell at a glance

I put a lot of heart into this so it'll be good

Beep boop I send you mail

but there's no reply at all

I'm fickle, so please, before my feelings for you eventually cool off

come home (the chime won't ring)

come home (the chime won't ring)

Notes:

[1] "doesn't" just seemed clunky. Although I used it in the verses. Makes sense to me, I dunno.

[2] There is no literal mention of a shoulder, but I didn't want to say generic "Carrying a heavy bag" and more times than not if the bag is heavy it seems like unless you have a rack you would sling it over your shoulder. Artistic liberty, beep boop.

ちょうどいいの - きゃりーぱみゅぱみゅ

This is the fourth track on Moshi Moshi Harajuku.

Japanese lyrics here.

It's just right - Kyary Pamyu Pamyu

Hm, I wonder what to do.

It's kind of mysterious.

Mm hm, it's kinda of hard to understand

like a secret item

Like this circle I drew with a pen

but it's not completely round.

It's just right, pink

As if you could just put it in the corner of the room

It's just right, soft

I love it, it's not dangerous

It's just right, no thorns

I'ts sparkling, just a little

It's just right, it's not you

Better than size, is feeling

Hm, I wonder what to do.

The things you like

are a little different from before

You are too; you probably haven't noticed [1]

Like this line I drew with a pen,

cuz it's not straight.

It's just right, pink

As if you could just put it in the corner of the room

It's just right, soft

I love it, it's not dangerous

It's just right, no thorns

I'ts sparkling, just a little

It's just right, it's not you

Better than size, is feeling

Notes:

[1] Hm, I almost missed this line and put, "You probably haven't noticed that yet." Would have been a pretty bad mistake.

チェリーボンボン ー きゃりーぱみゅぱみゅ

This is my favorite song on Kyary Pamyu Pamyu's mini album aside from PONPONPON.

Japanese lyrics here.

Cherry Bon Bon - Kyary Pamyu Pamyu

When I was a child

I would beg my grandma and sometimes

she would let me stay up late

Even as a grown-up

I still get that same excited feeling

It's not a misunderstanding—

I definitely remember

the flavor from back then.

Cherry cherry cherry bon bon

Cherry cherry cherry bon bon

My cherry cherry cherry bon bon

Cherryyyyyy bon bon

And the songs I listened to as a child

It's like I can listen to them

in a different way now

My dusty CD player

becomes a time machine

It brings back those feelings

I definitely remember

the flavor from back then.

Cherry cherry cherry bon bon

Cherry cherry cherry bon bon

My cherry cherry cherry bon bon

Cherry cherry cherry bon bon

Cherry cherry cherry bon bon

Cherry cherry cherry bon bon

My cherry cherry cherry bon bon

Cherryyyyyy bon bon

Get in the time machine

Your feelings from back then

Your dreams from back then

Remember them, cherry bon bon…

Cherry cherry cherry bon bon

Cherry cherry cherry bon bon

My cherry cherry cherry bon bon

Cherry cherry cherry bon bon

Cherry cherry cherry bon bon

Cherry cherry cherry bon bon

My cherry cherry cherry bon bon

Cherryyyyyy bon bon

PONPONPON ー きゃりーぱみゅぱみゅ

BIG UPDATE 8/6/2011!!! I just sang this in karaoke, so I saw a bunch of places where the lyrics were off. Still not perfect, but more accurate than it was :)

The disclaimer on this song is that it came out like...yesterday? So I don't have a reliable raw Japanese lyrics. Someone did a tranliterscription, but I made a couple changes because I think they potentially mistransliterscribed some parts and I finally came up with what it MIGHT be. But...I could be wrong. So this post will be considered a work in progress. Can't wait for the mini-album August 17!

Clap clap clap - Kyaryapamyupamyu [1]

What if everyone skipped

through that intersection

What if in the middle of the city

we held hands and looked up at the sky

What if we wanted to seize a chance

somewhere in that city

It's too early to cry more [2]

All I can do is just keep going forward—I hate it I hate it [3] UPDATE!!

Clap clap it'd be great if you put it all out there [4]

Not doing it is lame, right?

Put on your headphones! [5] UPDATE!

On the beat [6] UPDATE!

Way way! Open it, my path

Clap clap make progress with various things

Here they come, your feelings

Toss one out, who's the bad one? UPDATE! [6.5]

Yeah yeah, good boy, ahh you make me happy [7]

Every day clap every time is clap

I want to ride a merry-go-round UPDATE! [7.5]

every day clap every time is clap

but maybe it's pointless... [8]

Clap clap it'd be great if you put it all out there

Not doing it is lame, right?

Put on your headphones!

On the beat!

Way way! Open it, my path

Clap clap way way way

clap clap way clap way clap clap

way way clap clap clap

way way clap way clap way way x2

What if everyone skipped

through that intersection

What if in the middle of the city

we held hands and looked up at the sky

What if we wanted to seize a chance

somewhere in that city

It's too early to cry more

All I can do is just keep going forward—I hate it I hate it

Clap clap make progress with various things

Here they come, your feelings

Toss one out, who's the bad one?

Yeah yeah, good boy, ahh you make me happy

Every day clap every time is clap

I wanna ride a merry-go-round

every day clap every time is clap

but maybe it's pointless...

Clap clap way way way

clap clap way clap way clap clap

way way clap clap clap

way way clap way clap way way x4

Notes:

[1] Yeah, I translated "pon." You'll just have to deal with it, I think.
[2] I admit to being a little thrown by "no ni" and "nara" in this instance. This line is largely the result of machine translation :X even though "naku" and "hayai" make perfect sense. Computer came up with "It is early to still cry," and yeah, when you read it in Japanese you can't quite make it say "It's still too early to cry" which is what I really want it to say. I looked up まだ just to see what other options were available, so I ended up going with "more" instead of "still." Finally, nobody in English says, "It's early to [do something." The phrase is always "too early," right? Or "kind of early?" I don't think I've ever heard anyone not qualify "early to [do something]" so I want with "too" even though there was no "sugiru" or anything. Yeah, this line was kind of hard :(
[3] ANOTHER UPDATE: It's 「ただ前に進むしかないわいやいや」。UPDATE: This line has been updated per the original tranliterscriber's comment below! (Previous [3] note: This is one of the lines where the lyrics posted on that website didn't make sense to me. Given the the "susumu" line further down I figured "kuru mae ni susumu shika nai wa iya iya" IT COULD BE WRONG.)
[4] You could also probably translate this using "pon pon" as the verb "clap" instead of as a sound effect, but I like it this way better :P The song is not really about clapping after all.
[5] UPDATE: It's 「ヘッドフォンかけて」. This is the other line in the transliterscription that bugged me. "epon agete" doesn't make any sense to me. I swear I hear "kakete" so I feel like it's just an further encouragement to pon. If you think it's weird that I didn't translate with pon as the verb in the first line and do now, well, that is tough, I think :) Anyhow, my updated version is "ee pon kakete" AND IT COULD BE WRONG.
[6] Literally "put it on the rhythm."
[6.5] UPDATE: It's not BOY BOY but 「ポイポイ捨てる」, which means to toss or chuck out. Still not sure if this line is correct, but it's closer, like I mentioned in the beginning :D
[7] Literally "good child." The lyrics I went from seemed to want to translate it as "yeah yeah let's go" but in that case she would not have sung i-i ko but iko-o. Subtle difference but I am really confident in this case that I'm right. Especially given the juxtaposition with "bad child." Man I'm tempted to go with "naughty" for bad, but I really just hate that word. Can I be selfish and just use bad? :D #libertiestaken
[7.5] It's 「merry-go-round乗りたいの」
[8] I originally put "but maybe not? Ah, it's no good..." but somehow felt that wasn't quite right because I couldn't remember what the implications of "ja" were. The nifty.com translator came up with "It might be useless in so," for that line, so I just edited it.
