Get Wild - TM Network

I heard a chip-tune version of this the other night and it turns out the normal one is pretty cool too:

There is a lot of English in this song already, so it's kind of like cheating. Also, there are lots of versions of lyrics around, some longer than others. I just included the parts that are in this live video...

Get Wild - TM Network

Asphalt. Slashing tires,
escaping into the darkness

Even if I abandoned myself to cheap thrills
I was still scared of tomorrow

It's your pain or my pain or somebody's pain
If you're able to live for someone
It's your dream or my dream or somebody's dream
you won't be scared of anything

Get wild and tough
Embrace the puzzle of love that cannot be solved on your own
Get wild and tough
I don't want to take advantage of your kindness in this town

Get chance and luck
Somewhere there is a thing that only you can protect
Get chance and luck
Even by yourself you will recover your shattered dreams

She's blowing kisses at my headlights
That girl dancing in the road
With the cool night sky as her stage,
she's was sadly joking around.

It's your pain or my pain or somebody's pain
If you are able to love someone
It's your dream or my dream or somebody's dream
You'll grow stronger for sure.

Get wild and tough
Embrace the pain in your heart that can't be erased on your own
Get wild and tough
In this town I don't want to be too free

Get chance and luck
If you discover the thing
that only you can protect
Get chance and luck
Even by yourself you will recover your shattered dreams

Get wild and tough
Embrace the puzzle of love that cannot be solved on your own
Get wild and tough
I don't want to take advantage of your kindness in this town

Get chance and luck
Somewhere there is a thing that only you can protect
Get chance and luck
Even by yourself you will recover your shattered dreams

I didn't take notes this time either! I am lazy! I don't know! :P The lyrics are sort of vague, sooooo you may be able to take them in multiple ways :X AHhhhhhhh.

つぎの夜へ - ゆらゆら帝国

I really wanted to find the CD this song was on, but after investigating, it appears it was only a single? Fuuuuu! Maybe it's on iTunes or something? Anyways...I really like this song :X

To the next night

Can the pain be healed? How can the heart dodge it?
I was so stoked for a moment. Is the fun already over?
I'll try going out into the street to look for the lingering scent
It's a night where the lined up flickering neon seems to blur together

Everyone let's bring our sadness
Bring it to the next one
Let's bring our sadness
to the next night

In the middle of the night he had the feeling he was not alone
He felt the world start to brighten smoothly.
He'll vanish into the streets. The chains are already off.
He'll dance through. He'll sing through.

Everyone let's bring our sadness
Bring it to the next one
Let's bring our sadness
to the next night

Can the pain be healed? How can the heart dodge it?
Beaten in the night. The pin is already undone.
He'll walk around in the streets, a rose or something in his teeth.
He'll dance through. He'll sing through.

Everyone let's bring our sadness
Bring it to the next one
Let's bring our sadness
to the next night

---

I don't have particular notes for this. I know it's not perfect, but...

夏のミラージュ - 和田加奈子

Here is one of my favorite anime songs, from Kimagure Orange Road, so sweet. I may try to give this a shot at karaoke if they have it. Since I'm sweating it out in Tokyo now, seems only appropriate.

Summer Mirage - Kanako Wada

I'll put a spell
on you, player[1]
I want to put your heart
into a trance

Love is deja vu
unfamiliar memories
I can feel
our lips overlapping

Love me tenderly
a golden summer mirage
Someday someday
The morning you call me your lover[2]
go ahead and kiss my naked body
Someday someday
I'll wait forever

There's a balloon floating
between buildings
I have a feeling
very similar to vertigo.[3]

Stretch out your fingers
a letter with no characters
If I entrust it to the wind [4]
I bet you'll get it[5]

Love me eternally
White doves dancing on the wind
Tell me tell me
I wonder when love will come
To hold that person[6]
Tell me tell me
I'll wait forever

The Persia Blue
in your eyes
I want you to show me
the mysterious future

Love me tenderly
a golden summer mirage
Someday someday
The morning you call me your lover
go ahead and kiss my naked body
Someday someday
I'll wait forever

Notes:

[1] This is kind of bullshit haha. But I couldn't find anything about 遊び心 being an adverb or something. It seemed like it's instead the object of ふりかけて. The meaning I gathered is just wanting to have fun for fun's sake, like a player. I mean, 遊ぶ is even in there, so maybe this isn't surprising. I haven't looked to see how others have translated it, but it seems to fit, maybe.

[2] I don't think 呼ばれる is modifying 朝. "The morning I'm called your lover" seems strange to me, so I changed it to active instead of passive voice........is that bad?

[3] This whole bit was sort of problematic, but I think it came out right? First I couldn't decide if 予感 was being modified or not by the previous line, but I decided it was.

[4] あづける There were a bunch of words I was thinking about here like just plain "send" [on the wind] or "leave" or "throw" [to the wind], but I guess entrust seemed not tooooooo stiff and to catch the most meaning.

[5] "Probably" sounded really weak here. That line has a lot of personality, so I tried out "I bet" and it seems better. Maybe I'm a horrible translator. Maybe someday I'll go to grad school #bewww

[6] Ah this line is super important right? But I had trouble deciding how to read it. The は at the end is distinct from the kind of わ two lines down, so it's either just a phrase orrrrrr (what I decided, it seemed like it is maybe connected to that line. I.e. without the "tell me tell me" you would just read it as "To hold that person, I'll wait forever."

オーマイゴースト?〜私が悪霊になっても〜 ー 私立恵比寿中学

Since I'm obsessed with Nichijou...no wait, I started that way last time :P But it's TRUE! I am! And I love Hyadain too so of course if Kenichi Maeyamada (who is Hyadain) tweets about a new music video for a song he worked on, I gotta take a look.

Sooooo much fun! Let's check out the lyrics
. It's another where they are taken by ear, but it seems pretty accurate to me.

OH MY GHOST? Even I become an evil spirit... - Shiritsu Ebisu Chuugaku

Ghost ghosts ghosts are coming!

Run away run away, you're gonna get caught!

Oh no, oh no, we'll get possessed!

AHHHHHH

In the dead of night, mid summer, it's a real test of courage

Summer, but what's this cold patch next to me?

Cuz it can't be the case that it's a ghost

Above all else, that's not scientific

White clothes, dripping wet hair

Who's that laughing?

"Be gone, demon!" [1]

but that doesn't work at all!

A cross, a rosary, garlic? Useless!

Their numbers are growing. We're surrounded and caught in a corner! Nothing left to do but fight.

OOOooooOo OOooOOOo OOOOOoooO

Amen! Somen! Cold somen! Yeah!

Sore sore sore sore! Sore sore sore sore!

Spirits or whatever, beat'em up!

Kick'em hard with an enzuigiri! [2]

Don't underestimate girls!

My mom is way scarier than this!

Ghosts etc, beat'em up!

Beat'em up with a two-knuckle punch!

I'm a first class fighter—I can't lose!

It looks like you cursed the WRONG PERSON!

Rooooooaar rooooooar roar roar roar roar

Ebichuu ghost busters!

Zombies zombies zombies are here too!

Run away run away you're gonna get caught!

Oh no, oh no, we're gonna get bitten!

AHHHHHHH!

Coming home after extra curriculars, pitch dark after 8 o'clock

Short cut through a cemetery for foreigners [3]

Cloudy sky, sudden thunder

A Japanese elm splits right in half

The zombies squirmily start to move

It's an impossible dream or an illusion!

OH! MY! GOD! WHY! DON'T YOU SAVE ME NOW?

Do they even understand English?

Goopy sloppy sticky Useless!

There are so many of them! We're barricaded in our safehouse! We're caught in a corner. Shall we take'em out?

ooOOOooo ooOOOoooo oOooOO

Abracadabra! Viva non non! [4]

Zombies or whatever, beat'em up!

Kick'em hard with a flying knee kick!

Don't underestimate Japanese girls!

My teacher is way scarier than this!

Beat'em up with an un-deux-trois! [5]

Beat'em up with a lariat!

I'm a veteran fighter—I can't lose!

It looks like you picked the WRONG person to attack!

Rooooooaar rooooooar roar roar roar roar

Tonight's a thriller, thriller night!

Amen! Somen! Cold somen! Yeah!

Sore sore sore sore! Sore sore sore sore!

Spirits or whatever, beat'em up!

Kick'em hard with an enzuigiri!

Don't underestimate girls!

In some ways, my dad is scarier than this!

Ghosts etc, beat'em up!

Beat'em up with a two-knuckle punch!

I'm a first class fighter—I can't lose!

It looks like you cursed the WRONG PERSON!

Rooooooaar rooooooar roar roar roar roar

Ebichuu ghost busters!

Save meeeee!

Notes:

[1] Rin pyou tou sha kai jin retsu zai zen, an exorcism chant.

[2] This is actually also the word in English, for the pro-wrestling move...

[3] Dictionary gave me "shortcut! path! loophole! foreigner cemetery!" for this but that seemed unnecessarily awkward...

[4] If anyone gets this references, let me know.

[5] I can't tell if this is supposed to be the count down on the mat or another move. Search around for a while, but didn't find much...

ヒャダインのカカカタ☆カタオモイ-C — ヒャダイン

Since I'm obsessed with Nichijou, I thought I would give the opening theme song a shot. I used a couple different sets of Japanese lyrics, but my line breaks are probably still a mess.

Hyadain's Unrequited Love - Hyadain

I just realized for the first time (I've fallen in love!)
24 hours, you you you— (I can't help but notice)
Somehow (somehow) it's different from usual
Clumsy conversations with you (the two of us)
It couldn't be! (reciprocated feelings) Nah, unrequited!
Eek our eyes happened to meet!

What's going on? This thumping heart beat?
These mixed up messy trains of thought
It's the first time this has happend!
Wonder if I have a fever or something…

A sudden awakening of love
(My face burns up bright red at the drop of a hat) [1]
S-S-STUPID! My hands are shaking!
Is this what is commonly known as love?
I-I-I did it, conversation, all tongue-tied [2]
Awkward silence ma-mi-mu-me-mo
I wanna know your (your) feelings!
Un-un-un-re unrequited love!

There's this gloom in my chest [3]
My appetite is down 30%
I wonder why! It's bugging me
Oh no, I wonder if it's love

For some reason it's been bugging me but (Although we were friends)
Of course of course it's that sort of thing (I'm crossing a line)
I'm not the type to speak my mind (speak my mind)
Cuz this is aiming (pretty) high but (I don't care!)
I might kinda seriously like you

Writhing in agony with a splash, an awakening of love [4]
(Suddenly the world is Shangri-la) [5]
R-r-really? I can't freakin' stand this!
(My chest is just oozing) [6]

Delusions, illusions, my dreams are on a wild rampage
(I can't keep them in check! Am I a horrible person?)
And how do you (you) feel?
Un-un-un-re unrequited love!

If we were to go out, I wonder what I would call you
Are nicknames etc lame?
(I'm having selfish delusions about our date)
(Let's eat popcorn while watching a movie!)
(I'm such a girl) [7]

A sudden awakening of love
(My face burns up bright red at the drop of a hat)
S-S-STUPID! My hands are shaking!
Is this what is commonly known as love?
I-I-I did it, conversation, all tongue-tied
Awkward silence ma-mi-mu-me-mo
I wanna know your (your) feelings!
Un-un-un-re unrequited love!

First love! (The usual school zone)
Sparkling! (I do fall in love!)
I feel like I can fly
Un-un-un-re unrequited love!

Notes:

[1] This could be way off but I read あっちゅうま as あっというま It's either intuition and good context reading or #makingshitup. I hope the latter. As for my metaphor that seems the most natural "in no time" to use, unless you just say "in no time..." uhhhh, but I didn't!
[2] "Tongue-tied" is probably what we would say in English, although I'm not sure how this phrase is commonly translated...
[3] Thought about just saying "weird feeling" since that is how もやもや makes me feel, but maybe he really does mean gloomy.
[4] Ahhhhh this I really just took what the dictionary said and tried to make it make sense :( Not super natural...
[5] Unless there is some slang mean of Shangri-la.
[6] Oozing? :(
[7] I think this is the most effective way to translate that "to be effeminate" verb with ちゃう in English, although you could argue it should be something more offensive to gay people maybe. I mean honestly you could probably translate it as, "I'm such a fag" even? This is a serious question.

Midnight Ice Cream - OKAMOTO'S

Here is a song I often find in my head. Japanese lyrics here.

Midnight Ice Cream - OKAMOTO'S

In the middle of the night it visits me, an explosion I can't hold back [1]
Unbearable desire
My sweet sweet ice cream
Ah right now, ah right now

I'll crush these raging feelings to death, open the lid to see [2]
pink strawberry
I'm laughing
I'm forgetting that girl, but becoming a slave [3]

When I'm sunk into bed, melting from a fever [4]
I'll stuff my mouth so full
It's totally unbearable
It's a secret from mom and dad.

Midnight ice cream, in the middle of the night
Midnight ice cream, it's what I look forward to [5]
It's beckoning me again tonight
I'm bound hand and foot, won't come undone
I'm still ok. Let's keep going! [6]

[1] I think the subject is the unbearable desire.
[2]はやるis an interesting verb in that context. I picked "raging" like an epidemic rages, I guess...uhh. Also, みりゃ is kind of a new one on me. Not sure even how to go about figuring out what that means, so I'm just guessing from context that it's みる like あけてみる, given the pink strawberry that follows.
[3] Used "but" even though there was not a specific conjunction because I think he's becoming a slave no longer to the girl, but to the ice cream?
[4] The tense on this was sort of hard. 頃 implies past tense to me, but maybe that is just a more common use. And then 溶けてきた is past tense like melted, but I think in English we wouldn't use past tense in that instance, given the present/future of the following...part. I honestly didn't expect this song to be so hard :( But it's always hard! :D Because Japanese is hard -_-
[5] "It's my pleasure" is awk because of the set phrase and I also just like the "look forward to" angle more because you can see him daydreaming 'n scheming in his mind.
[6] Sort of a weird ending to the song. ヤリ続ける seems to imply...things, but I could be wrong. I just used "Let's keep going" in terms of "Let's keep doing [what we're doing]."

PONPONPON ー きゃりーぱみゅぱみゅ

BIG UPDATE 8/6/2011!!! I just sang this in karaoke, so I saw a bunch of places where the lyrics were off. Still not perfect, but more accurate than it was :)

The disclaimer on this song is that it came out like...yesterday? So I don't have a reliable raw Japanese lyrics. Someone did a tranliterscription, but I made a couple changes because I think they potentially mistransliterscribed some parts and I finally came up with what it MIGHT be. But...I could be wrong. So this post will be considered a work in progress. Can't wait for the mini-album August 17!

Clap clap clap - Kyaryapamyupamyu [1]

What if everyone skipped

through that intersection

What if in the middle of the city

we held hands and looked up at the sky

What if we wanted to seize a chance

somewhere in that city

It's too early to cry more [2]

All I can do is just keep going forward—I hate it I hate it [3] UPDATE!!

Clap clap it'd be great if you put it all out there [4]

Not doing it is lame, right?

Put on your headphones! [5] UPDATE!

On the beat [6] UPDATE!

Way way! Open it, my path

Clap clap make progress with various things

Here they come, your feelings

Toss one out, who's the bad one? UPDATE! [6.5]

Yeah yeah, good boy, ahh you make me happy [7]

Every day clap every time is clap

I want to ride a merry-go-round UPDATE! [7.5]

every day clap every time is clap

but maybe it's pointless... [8]

Clap clap it'd be great if you put it all out there

Not doing it is lame, right?

Put on your headphones!

On the beat!

Way way! Open it, my path

Clap clap way way way

clap clap way clap way clap clap

way way clap clap clap

way way clap way clap way way x2

What if everyone skipped

Notes:

[1] Yeah, I translated "pon." You'll just have to deal with it, I think.
[2] I admit to being a little thrown by "no ni" and "nara" in this instance. This line is largely the result of machine translation :X even though "naku" and "hayai" make perfect sense. Computer came up with "It is early to still cry," and yeah, when you read it in Japanese you can't quite make it say "It's still too early to cry" which is what I really want it to say. I looked up まだ just to see what other options were available, so I ended up going with "more" instead of "still." Finally, nobody in English says, "It's early to [do something." The phrase is always "too early," right? Or "kind of early?" I don't think I've ever heard anyone not qualify "early to [do something]" so I want with "too" even though there was no "sugiru" or anything. Yeah, this line was kind of hard :(
[3] ANOTHER UPDATE: It's 「ただ前に進むしかないわいやいや」。UPDATE: This line has been updated per the original tranliterscriber's comment below! (Previous [3] note: This is one of the lines where the lyrics posted on that website didn't make sense to me. Given the the "susumu" line further down I figured "kuru mae ni susumu shika nai wa iya iya" IT COULD BE WRONG.)
[4] You could also probably translate this using "pon pon" as the verb "clap" instead of as a sound effect, but I like it this way better :P The song is not really about clapping after all.
[5] UPDATE: It's 「ヘッドフォンかけて」. This is the other line in the transliterscription that bugged me. "epon agete" doesn't make any sense to me. I swear I hear "kakete" so I feel like it's just an further encouragement to pon. If you think it's weird that I didn't translate with pon as the verb in the first line and do now, well, that is tough, I think :) Anyhow, my updated version is "ee pon kakete" AND IT COULD BE WRONG.
[6] Literally "put it on the rhythm."
[6.5] UPDATE: It's not BOY BOY but 「ポイポイ捨てる」, which means to toss or chuck out. Still not sure if this line is correct, but it's closer, like I mentioned in the beginning :D
[7] Literally "good child." The lyrics I went from seemed to want to translate it as "yeah yeah let's go" but in that case she would not have sung i-i ko but iko-o. Subtle difference but I am really confident in this case that I'm right. Especially given the juxtaposition with "bad child." Man I'm tempted to go with "naughty" for bad, but I really just hate that word. Can I be selfish and just use bad? :D #libertiestaken
[7.5] It's 「merry-go-round乗りたいの」
[8] I originally put "but maybe not? Ah, it's no good..." but somehow felt that wasn't quite right because I couldn't remember what the implications of "ja" were. The nifty.com translator came up with "It might be useless in so," for that line, so I just edited it.
